I have talked to Richard several times over the last few days. He has had more strokes, up to 5 now. He just got out of the hospital from the last one about 5 days ago. His sight continues to deteriorate, walking is more difficult and has some memory problems. He also has issues with staying awake, sleeping 12 or more hours a day. All things considered, his attitude is great and keeps trusting in God.

He asks about the Old Fella Thread but his laptop computer has died, so between that and vision problems he cannot get on it. He is wearing a heart monitor to try and detect what might be causing the strokes. He misses everyone and asks we just keep praying for him.

It's been very quiet around here. I hope everyone is doing well.

I have to take my 3 dogs to the vet for their annual checkups soon. I am dreading it because last year it cost me over $1200 for the 3 of them. I used to be able to take 4 dogs for about $800 before I lost Murphy a year and a half ago. Not sure why it is so expensive now.

I had to get a new TV antenna installed on the motorhome. I hadn't used the TV antenna in several months since most places we have been staying have had cable. We went to Jetty Park several weeks ago and I tried to use the antenna and I wasn't getting many stations. I got out the ladder and went on the roof and the antenna was gone! I have no idea how long it had been gone and don't know what happened to it. It is a omni directional antenna so it doesn't go up or down (so I didn't forget to crank it down). One of the A/C units is a couple feet in front of the antenna and it taller so I don't think I hit anything. I think it might have just flown off sometime driving down the road.

We are trying to plan a long weekend trip to Tarpon Springs in August so I will see how well the new antenna works. I bought the same model replacement and I can't believe how light it is. Cheap plastic so I might lose it in another few years.

I hope everyone is doing well.

I am so sorry to hear Richard is having so many issues. Prayers for him. I have read this thread since I worked and cried at my desk over Old Fella, people thought I was nuts. I have been retired since 08.

Metal Gator sorry the vet bills are so high, but since I switched vets I have a better understanding as to why. I have horses and dogs I was taking my dogs to a new vet just out of school and every visit for puppy shots was $150.+. Now I know vet school is expensive. I have since switched to a older vet who built a nice clinic yet is about ready to retire. He has a bunch of older vets who work 1 or 2 days a week. When discussing vet stuff one of the older vets told me, when he started his practice 85% of his business was large animals. When he retired (or sold his business) it was 7% large animals. He says factory farming has pushed all the small farmers out and his business. Now I don't know that for sure but that was his story.

I know my horse vet and dog vet used to be the same person, but not any more. I truly hated calling the (just out of vet school vet) for any kind of info. They wouldn't tell you anything without a visit. The older vets office, will give you a few ideas to try before you bring them in, unless it's a emergency. Now I understand that wouldn't work work all pet owners, however I have raised horses and dogs for over 50 years. I don't raise either any more just try to keep the old ones alive and healthy.

I also have an issue with the young vet insisting my over 12 year old chihuahua getting shots every year. I didn't realize until it was too late but I will never give a small house dog anything but rabies after 10 years old. I have had 2 semi retired vets agree with me. I'm not anti vax by any means just had a really bad experience with an older little dog with yearly shots.

You all have a great day, I hate to see the thread not used. It has done so much good over the years.

I usually walk in the evenings just before dark with a pocket full of milk bones. The dogs in my neighborhood usually spot me about 1/2 block away. Some start barking while others just get really excited. I have one that comes up to me and just rubs up against me, her name is Maggie and she is a Golden Retriever. Such a sweet heart as she sits for her treat. What is sad is she is 13 years old and has cancer in her blood vessels and a big growth on her back just in front of her tail. There is nothing they can do for her since she would not survive being sedated. When she sees me coming she breaks into a pretty good run. My other close buddy is Struts a bird dog, he will start barking and howling when he sees me a block away. Such a character, he always demands 2 treats unless I miss a day then it's three. Got a Chocolate Lab who runs up to me then she sits and holds out her paw for a shake and her treat. Then there is Peaches, a little mix who runs really fast to me for her treat and ear rubs. There use to be an old Horse in the field that would come up to me and give me a nudge for his carrot, then he would put his head down and sniff my dog while Rocky sniffed him back. We lost him a few months ago due to old age.

I actually contribute what I do to this website, I have followed from day one. I have some pictures of Maggie and the old Horse but can't figure out how to post from my phone to here. Next time I'm around my Grand daughter I'll get her to show me how.

I've got a few stories I'll post later on rescuing some dogs in Yuma, AZ during our Winter trips.

SGTJOE you sound like a great guy to have in the neighborhood. Can I ask since you are in Utah, have you ever heard of Ruby's Campground in Bryce Canyon? Is it a nice place? Funny story about how and why we picked it. I mentioned we have horses and we do travel and trail ride. In thinking of a bucket list thing to do this year around the campfire. My husband decides we need to go to Bryce Canyon, we are not taking our own horses, renting them. However we needed to pick a campground and we picked Ruby's. The whole reason we picked it is because for our 40th wedding anniversary my husband got me a puppy. Part Rottweiler & part Great Pyrenes and we named her Ruby.

I wouldn't be concerned but some friends decided to join us we have 4 flying into Vegas and renting a car and 4 of us are driving motor homes from Indiana.

Please tell me if you can we picked a good place? Since we totally picked it because of the name only and the dog.

She doesn't even get to go, but 2 little dogs will.

I made it back from Indiana earlier this week. Have a trip planned in August and plan to go to Texas in October, but I'm here for now. The workers came Monday to start my screen room. That all came to a screaming halt a couple hours later when a board member stopped by and told me I didn't have the necessary park permit. Grrrr. I knew about the permit. I had hired the contractor in January and he told me he takes care of all the necessary permits, but apparently not. He told me twice on the phone that he had everything he needed when I asked him specifically about permits. So I quickly filled out the 2 line permit and turned it in. They told me 24 hours, but it's been 48. It will eventually get done but I'm a bit miffed. The board member had stopped 2 weeks ago when the contractor pulled up not knowing I wasn't here. He asked the contractor about the permit and was assured it was taken care of. I wonder why he didn't call me. . . my number's in all the park info. I guess they prefer stopping work once it's started rather than get it taken care of before there is a problem. It would have helped if he hadn't been so rude to me. Times like this I really miss Terry. He would have taken care of it all before hand. :-(

I did have a problem with my little rig this trip. It became harder and harder to take on fuel. I researched it and found it was likely a clogged vent tube on the gas tank. I was able to fuel enough to get to my sisters and then called around to see who could fix it. My local mechanic was out of commission due to an accident involving a chain saw, so I talked with the tech at an Elkhart truck business that works on motorhomes. He wasn't busy and said he would check it out. He did and cleaned out the clogged vent tube. He charged me two hours labor because he had to dropped the gas tank a bit, but he fixed it and I had no more problems all the way to Florida from Indiana.

Shadow57, We haven't been there but I did google the Campground and they have over 1100 reviews with a 4.3 average, that's pretty good. Hope you have reservations, it has been really busy at all the Parks this year.
