Very good friend of our had tattooed on his chest as a memoriam to his way to early departed wire, "every day is a gift".
Fast forward 10 years, and he gets remarried and dies in a somewhat strange household accident on his honeymoon.
Father in law on his death bed, said don't wait to do the things you want to do. He continued to work, robbed his then departed wife of the one vacation she wanted to have, and it wasn't for lack of money.
So, covid kind of helped pull forward all of our retirement plans, and I'm done working 8/31. Got our 5th wheel and truck last fall, and I have it set up sweet for full hookups, boondocking, whatever we want.
We leave 9/8 for a grand tour of several states, every thing is booked to 12/1, after that is still somewhat up in the air.
Now, my health challenged wife need cervical surgery and is scheduled for 8/12, which means she'll have to have it loaded before then. No big deal, but just to eff with our plans, I've discovered I have moderate to aggressive prostate cancer (confirmed by MRE), and have to go through the biopsy in a couple of weeks. This puts treatment starting probably beginning about the time we would be leaving. And just to make it even more interesting, I have ongoing cancer treatment on my esophagus on 8/10.
We'll see what comes out of the biopsy, but I'm thinking of doing the already planned part of our trip and maybe wandering back to MI in the beginning of December, and {shudder} spending the winter at our park model while I undergo treatment.
Every day is a gift!

I'm sorry to hear of the health challenges for you both. I do hope it all goes well for you two. A wiser man than I once pointed out that as long as you are still on the green side of the grass, it's all good. Enjoy the hell out of every day. You never know when that proverbial bus is going to fall out of the sky with your name on it.

I feel for you-Especially for the biopsis.Last year they did 12 on me, and all had cancer Each one is a big "ouch !"
Some went to the bones which required radiation and since then I have been on hormone therapy. They are trying to make a female out of me, and I get hot flashes.
The good news is my last five checkups there was no cancer detected, and the number "0"
Keeping my fingers crossed

Every day is a gift. They say "use it wisely" but sometimes you just need to say screw it,and enjoy the time now.
Health issues always want to dampen our fun later in life, but sometimes you just need to do what you feel is best. A bucket list is no good in a coffin.
Hope things work out for you. Seems like you have a good plan, doctor visits included. Maybe your doctor can recommend some other doctors/treatment places along your travel route. Good luck.

Yep I would have to agree with the majority of "Just Do It", My mother, wheel chair bound for years, at one point in her life while at our place for a bbq, wanted to go go outside. I helped to put her arms on a low hanging tree limb, helped her stand up, then after about a minute or so, she had tears in her eyes, I thought I hurt her, nope, she was happy and said' " Don't ever wait to do something you enjoy, you'll miss it, just like putting your feet in the grass". May she continue her rest where she feels no more pain and suffering. So My thing, as long as you can, go and do! Safe Travels to you, if needed re-arrange your route so you can get your treatments and go. You worked for years to be able to do it, now do it.

As a fellow Michigander, I understand your dread at the thought of spending a winter here. Make the best of each day; and get a "sunlight" lamp to brighten moods. Bundle up and find the beauty in each day

Why do we have so much cancer in America? Is our water, even bottled water, food and soils become toxic in ways we aren't aware of? Seems odd to me we hear so much about it these days.
I only hope all of us seniors find health and happiness and I know riding my bicycle helps me a lot with that. It's those moments after even a mild workout that I feel young again. That is why I think an electric bike may spoil it for me even though it would be a blast on the trails.

Last week I went to the retirement ceremony for a former co-worker (I retired 20 years ago) Now she basically has not changed. Oh her hair is a bit different (Rule changes allow more "liberal" hair styles so her hair is longer with highlights now) but otherwise she is just as I remember.
Two more women came up from the office I used to work at to the one she retired from I did not recognize at all.. I identified one by a comment she made. and the other later due to comments on Facebook....
The one has more than doubled in size (horizontal plane) due to the STRESS of the job and PTSD (Something I avoided).
That said I have medical issues but hey.. I'm over 70 I'm in way better shape than my mother was at 70 (She died at 64) I'm in better shape than my little brother (he had a full arrest heart attack. I've got a pacemaker but my heart has never failed me)
One of the reasons I "Parked" where I parked when my motor home got totaled is the availability of top health care in the area. I'm an hour from Detroit/Ann-Arbor (Best health care in nation from what I can find) and minutes from "Satalite" hospitals in those same systems.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

after a semi "nicked" it. Still have the radios

It is always inspiring to read posts written by people who do care about their health. I think we would have a healthier nation if we ate properly and teach our children to do it from birth. Of course, being physically active is important and great, but nutrition plays the biggest role. I found a good list of products and helpful recommendations here https://betterme.world/articles/a-macro-food-list/ and decided to follow them. I should say, it helped me figure out what products to eat and when.
