Topic: King Dome in motion satelite dish

Posted By: iguana07 on 09/09/16 05:01pm

I have a 2009 Tiffin with the original on roof mounted King Dome. Went to use it a couple weeks ago and was having trouble connecting to satellites I have a DTV system. I called King Dome and the tech told me this King Dome system no longer works with Direct TV as of March this year. . He said that DTV has done something to their satellites and they have no fix. Have to buy new system. Has any one had this problem with their King Dome? I believe it still works with Dish Network.

That is NOT correct. Dish made changes to their system but DirecTV did not. The problem would be real if you were a Dish customer. Nice excuse, just not correct.

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

What model King dome? Do you have a box that lets you select which of 10 areas of the country you are in?

This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

Bill is correct. However, my KingDome stopped finding the DirecTV satellites no matter what I did. KingDome did help me set some of the transponders manually and that worked for a while, but eventually quit. I recently replaced it with a Winegard Trav'ler and couldn't be happier. It does not work underway but that's OK with us. Chuck

Yes it has the monitor that you pick the section you are at.

I tried for an hour or more trying to get a signal. I did everything the same since the last time I used it with great reception. So your saying the tech is incorrect? How do you know this?

What receiver are you using. The Genie or a Genie Client and the H25 will not work. If it is a receiver from your home you will need to change the receiver setup (Repeat Satellite Setup) and change it from a SWM switch type to Multiswitch. Set the antenna type to #1 (18" round) as well. With the SWM setting the receiver will not send the required voltage to the antenna LNB.

what I understand it will not work with dish at all and Direct only 101

Why would anyone need more than DirecTV 101? I assume you just meant to say that it won't work with Dish but should work perfectly with DirecTV.

I had a number of discussions with KingDome and the techs told me on more than one occasion that the issues are with Dish and NOT DirecTV. They did say however that at some point even DirecTV will be affected. Any additional changes made on the satellites will change how all this works. The Kingdome can be programed, as I said, to look for and lock on to certain transponders which help with the constant searching issue. But this was only a temporary fix for us. Sometimes it would lock on and the next time it would not. We finally gave up on the KingDome and moved on. Chuck

I've got a newer King dome and use it with Dish. I am able to get Dish HD, but you need a 211 receiver. Newer receivers, like the Hopper, will not work. Currently, my understanding is that with DirecTV and domes, you can only get SD. To get HD you have to go to a manually pointed dish.

Newer KingDomes yes. Older models, depending on the model, no. So you would need to contact KingDome to check and see if your model is compatible and even if it can be updated. Chuck

OK where can one find the full channel listing for direct 101/119 and what receiver is best for the 2008-09 era in motion kingdome
Model 9760 and any idea where to buy a De-stacker to run two receivers?
thanks

Not sure why you sent me a PM when you posted the same question here, but here's the reply to your PM.

First, you are not going to be able to install a de-stacker setup with your dome. You need to run a separate dedicated coax from the antenna to each receiver.
As to the channels, every SD channel broadcast by DirecTV is available on the 101 satellite. Any receiver other than the H25 or Genie should work just fine. If you will only use this receiver in your RV with a dome you could try to find a D12 receiver (SD only). Otherwise, you can take any receiver from the home to the RV and hook it up.

In the manual it says that in order to run two receivers on a 9762 king-dom I need to purchase a de-stacker.
but if its a 9760 I don't and if its a 9762-LP I don't soo I will have to make sure exactly what I really have here

Only King Dome could provide you with a destacker if that's the way they setup the antenna (with a stacker LNB). That dome is quite old so if King Dome can't provide it I doubt you will find a source. Good luck.....It was never a good system (the destacker option).

thanks I just changed my post(see above) I will have to wait and see exactly what model I actually have. I have owned the Mh for over 5 years and never used the sat system but our so called 5 star resort after 9 years is too cheap to pay for proper cable programing so TWC put a filter system on the main hub and we lost a lot of channels and get zero HD capability and plain crappy SD signal and then raised our HOA fees (long story not happy)
