I just heard from Sue.

Richard had a stoke September 30th. He has been getting worse since then. He is now in Hospice care. He is not aware of anything at all.

So sorry to hear this. I've been wondering what has been going on with Richard and had a bad feeling about it. Prayers are going his way.

I met Richard on this thread, like a lot of us. It was such a joy getting to know him, both here and in person in Albuquerque and at the occasional Old Fella Rally. He was so kind to my big, floppy, goofy Irish Setter Bortan and my Golden, Amroth. He did good things. He was fun. He and Sue were inspiring. He'll be greatly missed. If we live on in our friends' memories I know he'll always be a bright spot in mine. If we live on, on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, I know he had a very happy Arrival and is safe in our Father's loving arms. Bon Voyage, Richard!

I am very saddened by this. Richard was a good man and friend. I last talked to him on the Sept. 28th, two days before the stroke and he felt he was stable but not happy with his disability. He was ready to go and is now with family and his beloved pets. Godspeed Richard, you were a blessing. Prayers for Sue and family.

We first met Richard in Branson at the Rally in 2013. We made every Rally after that. We became good friends and stayed in touch. We talked a couple times a month and visited when we could.

We are both saddened by his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sue and his family.

It's hard to believe the first Old Fella Rally was 15 years ago. I remember hearing Richards favorite stories more than once while sitting around a campfire. Many good memories and good times from those days.

Part of Richard's legacy is his attention brought to the plight of stray animals. In his efforts to save Old Fella, he showed us all the way to bring our energy to help solve this issue.

Richard and this thread have touched us and thousands of people who have kept up this thread and interacted with each other at rallies around the country and provided a good life for hundreds of animals.

He will be missed.

Oh my… this is very sad news! Sending sincere condolences to Richards family! I am so very sorry! RIP Richard; and may your spirit and kindness and the intent of this page continue on to memorialize your passion for kindness to animals and people alike!
