We have a trip planned Labor Day weekend headed to Bryce Canyon. I almost wish our campground would cancel our reservations, or the people we are going with would want to stay home. I was already concerned about the drive out there (I hate heights) before they closed hwy 70. Does anyone know how hwy 50 is? I can only imagine between the mountains and traffic, I don't know which scares me more. Any information appreciated.
Hopefully by the time you're coming out this way all these thunder storms and flash floods will be history. It has been brutal.
As far as the route to take coming out here you can check out the best and safest routes by using the Mountain Directory West for truckers, RV and motorhome drivers. It shows the hills on all major rodes

Good Morning FOOFs
We are heading out this afternoon in the motorhome for Tarpon Springs. Staying at Hickory Point and have a water site. Unfortunately, it looks like we might have to come home early as there is a tropical storm that will be coming in this weekend. We are supposed to stay until Sunday morning but if the storm heads this way, we will probably leave on Saturday. Just a wait and see game right now.
I have to take two of my dogs to the vet on Monday for their annual checkup and then I am scheduled for a colonoscopy on Tuesday so my next week is very busy.

Well we're doing OK here in Las Vegas. At last the heat has broken - at night anyway. Took the dogs for our desert run yesterday at 0400 and it was down in the 70s. 2 hours later it was over 90, but can't complain. Planning a trip to Chama NM soon. Can't wait! (Puppy's first big trip)

It's been very quiet here lately.
We just got all of our dogs yearly vet visits out of the way. My two Papillons have bad teeth and the vet said their blood work came back with a hint of infection. They have been given antibiotics and he suggested having their teeth cleaned. I knew my little Papillon had bad teeth but I was surprised that Monty's teeth were that bad. The vet had always talked about how good his teeth looked. I am a little hesitant to have them put under for the procedure as they are getting old. They just turned 11, but besides their teeth, they are in very good health and don't look that old. My Chihuahua (Pinto) got a clean bill of health.
My wife has been sick with COVID the last several days. She started coughing on Monday and when she got up on Wednesday morning, she felt like she had a head cold. She got tested Wednesday morning and sure enough, came back positive for COVID. We are supposed to be going away next weekend. She is really looking forward to this trip but obviously will have to see how she is feeling and she will need a couple of negative tests first. I was tested on Wednesday and was negative but I am going to get another test today. We have basically been living on the opposite sides of the house. I am hoping she starts to improved over the weekend.
I hope everyone is doing well.

Sorry to hear about your COVID adventures. Florida is a high community spread area right now. Were you guys vaccinated? Also, consider inquiring about monoclonal antibody treatment. Given early it can make a difference in severity and eventual outcome. Also, I think the monoclonal antibody treatment is free - treatment costs are picked up by one of the congressional acts.

About half the people I know that have gotten COVID down here where vaccinated. Doesn't seem to matter if you are vaccinated or not (as far as getting it). However, the vaccinated seem to have much milder symptoms and aren't going to the hospital. I have a friend who works in the local hospital and he said 80-90% of the COVID patients aren't vaccinated.
My wife is feeling better tonight. She just felt like she had a cold the last couple of days. If she didn't know it was COVID, she would have probably gone to work but she got a COVID test on Wednesday and it came back positive.
I have now had 6 covid tests since June of 2020 and luckily they have all been negative. Several employees have gotten it at my work and if you were around the employee, you have to quarantine for 10 days and have a couple negative tests before you can come back to the office.
It sure has been a crazy year and a half. My cousin in Kentucky and her Husband and her 3 kids all have COVID. I have no idea if they are vacinated but her husband was in the hospital with phenomena for a couple of days.
Anyway, just glad that my wife is feeling better. Now I have to turn my attention to my doggies and get their teeth cleaned.

I know it seems like many people who got vaccinated are getting COVID and are reported in the press. The reporting skews things as we don't see the vaccinated people who were also exposed and NOT infected.
The only way we get this information is through cohort studies. This is where all people (both vaccinated and unvaccinated) in a population are routinely tested. Stats can be developed to compare relative infection rates and protective effects of the vaccine. These are being done and stats still show amazing protection from the vaccines. Certainly not as effective with Delta as with the original wild strain and also with waning immunity as time from vaccination lengthen.
The bottom line is that as long as this thing is being spread like it is now, we're all at risk. The only way to tamp this thing down is to vaccinate more people and continue to take public health measures to mitigate spread.

We started wearing our mask again when in public places.
Certain venues are starting to require proof of vaccination now or a negative test recently to enter here in Ohio.

We did manage to get out a few times with the 5er so far. Spent a few days in Frankenmouth and a Weekend in the Amish Country here in Millersburg.
Going to my nieces property this weekend. She has Electric and Water it is always a nice quite get away.

Just read a preprint of a study out of Israel. Good news is that they found a 3rd booster provided big improvement in protection from Delta, many fewer infections in vaccinated individuals. They started giving 3rd boosters to people >60 in July. They postulate that this will aid greatly is stopping the Delta spread.
Sandy got her 3rd Pfizer vx about 10 days ago (per her rheumatologist's recommendation). We too are masking and avoiding large gatherings.
