I have a 5 year old Springdale. I never cleaned the roof or used a roof protector chemical on the roof. I feel I may create a problem if I use a chemical than if I leave it alone to the sun, rain, normal wear. The last thing I want to do is open up caulking or seals around the air condioner, vents, edging. Am I better off to leave the roof alone or should I use a cleaning/protector type product. I am not talking about cosmetic looks. I do clean the sides of the trailer. I am talking about roof preservative/maintanence.

With all the talk on a EPDM rubber roof. Is a "leave it alone" attitude good when it comes to Travel Trailer roofs.

Hate to use a product on the roof only to find it creates a leak.

Thank you in advance for replies.

Safest, most effective stuff is Aerospace 303, it's like adding a SPF sunscreen of 40 to your roof, and contains no petroleum products or silicone (both ingredients are banned by TPO and EPDM roofing manufacuters like Carlisle.) and extend the life of the membrane. You can use 303 on all the rubber, plastics, ABS, fiberglass and even paint and vinyl graphics on your RV and car/truck! The Material Data Safety Sheet (MDSS) says it's even safe enough for use around kids and pets, no harmful chemicals.

Where do you find this product? I'm sure I could find it online, but is it sold in RV supply shops, or Wally world?

Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know much, and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.

Doing nothing is better than using the wrong products… but just soap and water is all that is needed…

This was told to me by my son who spent several years in the RV repair business. They saw more damage from people walking on the roofs trying to clean and treat the roofs than just leaving the roof alone. His claim is let the dirt stay, the rain will wash off the excess and what's left will help block the UV.

If it was ME, I'd follow the manufacturers recommendations and not put ANYTHING other than mild detergent on the roof. Using the wrong stuff can void the remaining warranty on the membrane. (assuming it's a rubber roof). If it's a TOP Vinyl then put about anything you like on it (but it's not necessary).
Good luck / Skip
