FYI, I have both the Fan/Mate and the MaxxAir II and neither of them allow even the regular old manual cranking vents to open fully (just an inch or two from max), so it's not a problem specific to Fantastic Fans. The advantages of being able to open it in the rain, however, means I wouldn't go without them.

I put on the Max Air II . They do hit but stop. I do not think opening the extra 2 inches would improve the air flow.
Mine work great and with the hinges they are easy to clean.

since I installed my FanMate and MaxAirs I'm pretty sure I've never fully closed any of the vents rain/sleet/wind and snow - gotta love how they protect!

Not sure why there is a fit issue. I have two automatic power fans under MaxxAir Fan/Mates and the covers open to the extent of the the electric motor limits.

I installed two of the regular Maxxair Vent Covers and yes they get hit, but no big deal as the Fantastic fans still works well. Once the motor stalls when opening or closing the current stops to that motor (not sure how it does, but it does) so hitting before fully open is not a problem. I used Silcone Seal four years ago to glue mine on and they are still up there.

It isn't just about the height and fit, it is also about the amount of air flow. The fantastic fans require the ability to move a lot of air or they may burn up. Fantastic Fan technical support told me to use the Fan Mates to keep from damaging my fans.

I've been using the Max Air vent cover on my 1 Fantastic Fan for 6 years now, and have had no problems, no burned out motors, has more than enough air flow even at high speed (which I rarely use, it gets too noisy). I even did the upgrade with the remote, all new controls, etc., no problems. The Fantastic Fan has a limit control that will stop the lifting of the vent if an obstruction is encountered (like if you're too close to a tree branch).

I just replaced a broken dome cover from Fantastic Fans. It broke from a wind storm here in Fl. They sent it out free of charge as I was told they are guaranteed for life. When talking to the tech I asked him about dome covers and he said they do not recommend them with their fans. Sure enough on their site if yo click on fan operation it states right there they suggest not using them for ventilation purposes. I asked him then how are you supposed to use the fan driving down the road and he said to just make sure they are open to their fullest and there would be no problem. My question then was why did my cover break when we were not even moving but he had no answer. When I was looking at the covers at CW they had another brand there I believe they were made by "Gamble" Co. or something like that, that resemble the Max Air II cover but were a bit cheaper. I'm still trying to decide if I should put them on or not.

Did you get the Maxxair II's? They're supposed to be larger, to fit the larger fans. I haven't actually seen them yet, but I'll be in the same situation, soon.

I just went back out to the garage to make sure,, But it is marked right on the side : MAXXAIR II, One of the above post stated to not open the cover all the way up.. Well mine is automatic, and when I turn on the fan the cover just opens full. From what I can see there is no way to use the MAXXAIR II, With Fantastic unless there is a way to adjust the cover so it will open all the way..VACMAN
