I won't share my opinions of camping in parking lots.
But I'm a little confused about the reaction to what's going on in that picture. Is it OK for people to camp in a Walmart parking lot, but not OK to sit in one reading a book?

The two "campers" pictured certainly are better dressed and more attractive than what I see wander thru the parking lot of my local WalMart--maybe they are props to improve WalMart's image?

If you are going to talk about BOONDOCKING, then give us pics of a BOONDOCKING SPACE.
BLACKTOP PARKING or Wallydocking, or Urban Parking is only that.
You have have trees and rural space around your to boondock. You may be in a gravel pit, but you are in rural area!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What you are talking about is just what obligations you have to a retailer and other customers in a urban parking lot
Calling that boondocking is an offense!!!!!!
You are talking about people doing a lot more than stopping for a rest from driving. Rudeness to others, yes. But a huge part of the rudeness here is the use of erroneous language.
I am a boondocker, I am NOT a blacktop parker.
& I, I took the road less travelled by.

I'm confused also.
On my way to yellowstone this year, a 4000 mile journey, I am sure I will stop at night and sleep in the camper either at a wal-mart, or a rest area, or wherever I am. I want to get there. I don't see a reason and I don't have a need to pay 55 bucks to a campground somewhere for the privilege of pulling in, sleeping, and pulling out.

this is NOT boon docking
this is DRY camping in walmart parking lot
all boon docking is dry camping
BUT not all dry camping is Boon Docking
apparently they have a NICE TT/RV and spent some money in WallMart..
Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother

What, this thread isn't closed yet? :-)
Just quoting the definitions from over in the boondocking forum
Overnighting: Stopping at a Rest Stop, Flying J's or WALMART overnight to catch a few winks.
Boondocking: Means wilderness or primitive camping out in the "boondocks." Natural beauty with little or no (noisy) neighbors. This type of camping (usually in Public Lands like State, BLM, and National Forests) is usually FREE. Just find a place and park.
Have I overnighted at Wally's yet? No, but I'd consider it if I had to. As to why I haven't yet, it's because I've been able to find spots like they are defined under boondocking, or at worst, simple NF or state/county campground for a night, when planning the route ahead of us. Because such stops generally make for a more pleasant evening. Just been lucky thus far. I figure eventually, I'll end up at a Walmart/Flying J/etc on some future travel day where we pullup short of our destination unexpectedly.
And yes, I realize how much of a troll the original post was, that that yes, I'm providing a snack...
