Am I to understand that you drove 400 miles to save $500? And in the process got yourself into this service/warranty situation.

If the service department is as busy as he claims, then I don't blame him for wanting to service his customers (the people who actually bought from him).

What would you do if you were the dealer?

No! The first place I went to out of town was $500 difference, for that amount I would have purchased localy.

I drove 400 mi to save $9,000 and it was worth the trip and I will stand by my decision, and most of all my DW is happy about our decision.

You are lucky that you found out about that dealer before he DID work on your RV. If his service department were worth a salt, he'd LOVE to get that warranty work or any OTHER service work because it's probably the largest money maker for most dealers. If the service department is quite poor and he has to do jobs more than once he probably cringes every time ANYONE brings in a unit for service. Find another dealer, lean to service your own RV, phone a friend but I'd advise you NEVER us that dealer.

won't and will never use this guy for anything ever. I drive by his place 2 time a day to and from work and cringe every time I see the place and customer in his parking lot.

He is the 5th largest dealer in the state of TX and this is why he gets away with his behavior.

can you explain ( in general )the law that was passed? Do I understand you right that the law basically says dealers reserve the right to refuse service to anyone?

The dealer may be concerned about getting paid by the factory for the work. Which, in today's RV economy, is a valid concern.

My local dealer, who I didn't buy my RV from (I got it used, out of state) has been very good as far as service is concerned. He had told me that he gives his "buying customers" the priority, which I understand, but he would get to us as quickly as possible. Sounds fair to me!

I understand buying for price.....all other things be similar, but also I like to figure the value of priority service and local business into the equations.

I bought a Honda Fit.....got a great price at a dealer (through Costco) that was over an hour away....and brought it to the local dealer. I would have absorbed $500 (after all, it would have cost money to drive over to get the car and such)....but the local dealer matched the price!! Yahoo!! And I was able to order the car that I wanted (color and options).

I'm glad that you were able to work things out with the Mfgr....

I think I'd give the local dealer who refused work a letter (with Cc to the BBB) about what I think of them. It probably won't do any good, and I bet that his service isn't all that good anyway...Usually you can sense how a business is by how they behave in other areas.

Good luck, and don't let this get you down.....GO CAMPING!!!!

I am not a lawyer and this was told to me by an OpenRange representive. basicly the law is suppose to help the customer get service from a prefered provider, if I understood him correctly. He did tell me this as a last recourse to help solve my problem. I think under a normal circumstance he would not have told me about the loop hole.

He just want me to be satified. He also told me that this was not the first time he has run across this problem, and I have found out that it is not just about OpenRange. It is any RV in my town he is king of the hill, and it must be good to be king.

I first priced mine at a dealer in Colbert, OK. Then priced indentical model at Funtime RV in Cleburne. Funtime was $6,000 less. Bought it there.
A friend bought one in Colbert and felt he got a good deal. (don't know what that was). But my friend mentioned to the dealer that I had one I had purchased at Funtime. That dealer told him to tell me to bring it to him if I needed any work done, warranty or otherwise.
Seems like your local dealer is just cutting off his nose to spite his face.
