We took our familys first trip out this weekend and every thing went great, except the brake controller. Every time I come to slow down the trailer brakes start locking up and bucking. I ran up to 6.0 and set it like the cd says but coming up to an intersection or going very slow(city driving) it starts this bucking motion with the trailer brakes. Can you help me?

It is possible that the controller is set to high causing the brakes to grab different trailers need different settings initially Prodigy tells you to start at 6.0 do the brake test and if they lock up lower the setting I run my prodigy at 4.8 with the boost on 1 you have to play with it a little bit until the brakes do not lock up but lead the tow vehicle a little. The bucking try adding more weight in the front of the trailer for starters and see if that helps or it could be a hitch adjustment but they do buck a little.

I needed to get the brakes adjusted on our 5er when I first used it, the brakes were not grabbing the drums evenly on the driver's side. The other thing is that in city traffic I turn the boost to b1 and use b2 on the highway.

I had mine set at 6.1-6.2, but after the brakes were adjusted, I run it at 7.0-7.1 and it is fine.

When I first started, I used 5.8 and no boost. I found that the b1 setting was good for highway, but in the city, it caused bucking.

Agree, you do need to adjust it at First, to meet your need's. I changed tow vehicles, and had to adjust my settings, even though it was the same trailer. Don' be afraid to play with it, you will not break it !!! I think I run mine at 6.2, with boost 1, will have to check.

The problem you describe can be caused by the boost setting. Anything higher than B1 can do this.

Mine caused a similar problem when I had the boost at 1. I turned off the boost and now it works great. But then again my trailer is much lighter than yours. Something to try though.

When I'm changing the boost setting I believe I'm supposed to push the top button on the right twice to get it to change from boost 1 to boost 2. If this doesn't work do I just reset the controller and start all over or will it clear itself and go back to no boost if I keep pushing the button twice? It seems like I have good stopping power on the highway but when we get in to tight spots like the camp ground or backing in it rolls and breaks, rolls and breaks.(This is with my foot on the pedal a little). I know it is something with the controller and not my hitch. I will play around with it again this weekend when we head out but if someone could tell me if the controller resets itself I would appreciate it. Where we are going this weekend, there is alot of hills and not to much for flat ground. Thank you all for your reply's. Shawn

Yea, this definetly sounds like the boost is to strong. Just keep pressing the boost button until it cycles around to 0.

Make sure you also check your boost settings. Make sure you are not on b2 or 3.
