RE: Carbon Monixide Detector

A friend once told me that they have to b e replaced every few years (5+ maybe). I don't know if this is correct or not. I did have the problem where the chemicals used by a fire resoration service would set the detector off. I just aired out th unit for a few days.

RE: 5th wheel hitch questions

For a used hitch I think you would expect to get everything except maybe the bed rails. These can be bought seperately as a kit. If the hitch includes the bed rails, you should still plan on a new set of bolts.

RE: grease 5th wheel

In my opinion you should still grease the pin and the hitch jaws though.

RE: Porcupine Mtns??

I've yet to hike any of the trail that goes along Superior's shore in the park. Tuba, why do you say to avoid it? I'd like more info about that.
We once started one of the trails at the Presque Isle campground and headed east along the lake. It started out real nice through some virgin woods. But then we came to the first creek. You had to go down about 50' at about a 30 degree angle. The climb back up the other side looked even more daunting. I think the OP was looking for trails that weren't too difficult.

Some never even unhook on an overnight and have the slide(s) out.

I don't know all the particulars of your circumstances so this may not work, but . . .
If most of the issues are in getting dressed would it be possible for him to slip into a large robe and then go to where you can help him? It may look out of place but it it works, who cares?

RE: Electric Coolers, 40qts and up

Two problems with them. Neithet is necessarily a show stopper if you compensate for them.
1. They usually only cool about 20 - 30 degrees below ambient. If it is really hot outside, it may only get down to 50 - 60 degrees inside.
2. Some draw a fair amount of current. They can drain a battery in a day or two if that is your source.
But yes, I have one and use it when the refrig gets too full. Within their limits these are nice to have.

RE: Grand Teton Park land for sale?

I read the article. It seems Wyoming owns something like 2 0r 3 one square mile parcels within the park. The governor has threatened to sell them to developers unless Washington caves to his demand for more funds.

RE: Porcupine Mtns??

Never heard of Presque Isle campground but Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park has electricity. . .
Union Bay has electricity, Presque Isle unit doesn't. It's clear at the other end of the park. Something like 17 miles to the west.

RE: Old Faithful and rude RVers

Simple solution: Go to Yellowstone (and other national parks) AFTER Labor Day, preferably mid-week! Most of those with school age children will be gone, alleviating the crowding problem.
That's our plan. Hope it works!

RE: Porcupine Mtns??

We love the Porcupines and stay at Presque Isle. Just a word of warning so you are prepared, you are aware there is NO electricity in the park, not just the campsites?
There are a lot of trials, you can probably get a map when you check in. Avoid the trail that runs from the campground up along Lake Superior. Most of the others are pretty good. We sometimes drive back the park road to some of the trail heads. It is a wilderness park so activities are somewhat limited to hiking the trails, looking for agates, or visiting historical spots in the park.

Not much closer for you but we always enjoyed canoeing the AuSable River out of Grayling. There are a fair number of campground in the area, from a state park, to state and national forest campgrounds, to private/

RE: Honeywell HW2000i 2,100 Watt ??

I dont see any primer bulb on mine, . . .I wonder if the newer models have changed.
Mine,,, I took it out of the box, put .45qt of oil and some gas,,,
Choked it and it started on the second pull.
Must be. On mine, the instructions were to press the primer bulb 30 - 50 times, then choke, then pull.

RE: Honeywell HW2000i 2,100 Watt ??

I bought one on Amazon. I think it was $499 plus $45 shipping. Unfortunately, I've had problems with it. The shop guy says he has seen a few with defective primer bulbs. The generator can get enough fuel to run but not at load.
I am eager to see what it will do once it is fixed.

RE: Need Help With Class A Camping in Grand Haven Michigan

Dutchwind has it pegged. Great park, close to all the touristy stuff. But probably close to impossible to get a site for more than one night until the kids are back in school.

RE: Gas vs. Diesel

We have a fifth wheel in the weight range you mention. We spent a lot of time (in Michigan) limited to 55 mph with our 1500 Gaser by the gentle slopes on our interstates. IMHO it's not the weight, it's the high front end creating drag that slows you down. We moved up to a diesel and are much happier.

RE: GY Marathon ST225/75R15 (Balancing?)

If they have been balanced, you will see balance weights. No other way.
If you research these threads you will see a lot of support for balancing. Most tire problem threads do not address balancing. Balancing should improve tire life and lessen vibration inside the unit. Not a lot of hard data to "prove" it.

RE: Question on Electrical hookup

The lady says their generator has a 20 amp or 50 amp plugin.
Just a tad vague from my perspective. Other posters seem to know what this lady is talking about. I'm not so sure. The question in my mind is the 50 amp side at 120 volts or 240?
Plugging in and having a mismatch in amps available can be dealt with. Not so if you plug a 30 amp, 120 volt RV directly into 240 volts.

RE: Generators

I have a Honeywell 2000i. I like it better than my Champion. The Honeywell won't run the A/C but then we never seem to need it. What I like about the Honeywell is it is quieter under a partial load and I can lift it by myself. The Champion weighs 100 lbs., which is too much for me.

RE: 5th wheel hitch sticking, can't unhook - help now!?

I think RoyF's suggestion to use the parking brake is the best solution. If you back up and then use the transmission park, the truck can roll a little forward until the parking pawl engages. If you use the parking brake, the truck is held in place, keeping pressure off of the hitch jaws.
