RE: Fire Wood Bans

In NY there is a limit of 50 miles unless the firewood is kiln dried.
Yup and I know that it is enforced when crossing the border, it's one of the main search items now.
I get all my firewood from a cutter about 2 miles from our seasonal site at very reasonable prices.

RE: auto generator control

Mine has a kick start system; when we're in bed and it gets too hot, my wife kicks me and I get up and hit the genny button.

RE: Test Driving Used Motorhome

I'll throw my vote to the test drive side also. I can't imagine buying a vehicle without trying it.

RE: Scanned coming back in the U.S. ????

There are portable truck-based scanners at the crossing we use weekly. You are asked to leave the vehicle and stand in a waiting area while they drive the scanner truck around the vehilces; they typically scan a line of 4-6 vehicles at a time. The entire process takes about 10-15 minutes. Vehicles are selected for a scan at random.
In the past three years at crossing 1-2 times a week all summer, we were selected only once for a scan.

RE: Quebec City to Montreal

I use the south side of the river which is highway 20 simply because it's closer to our house. If I were to select based upon a 'nicer' drive, I would use highway 40 on the north side fo the river.

RE: Blue Ox push pin failure

Sorry to hear of your problems.
I bought a new Blue Ox Aladdin in 2010. Here's what the pins look like

Which pins are these? The good or bad ones?
Same as mine.

RE: stressed! how do you guys dl it?

Here's my perspective; I love to drive and I stop a lot. I find our MH much more restfull than towing our 5th wheel.
Even at 6'+ I like to drive right up on the wheel while I sit straight up in my seat with my forearms and upper arms at a 90 degree angles. This keeps me from 'reaching' for the wheel and putting strain on my upper back and neck. I keep my arms on the armrests most of the time and drive holding the mid-point of the steering wheel (9:00 & 3:00 o'clock) or lower. I drive on cruise control 90% of the time. I actively drive with my vision as far down the road as possible and avoid the 'keep it between the lines' syndrome which leads to way too much wheel movement.
I've found that I can put in an 10-12 hour day and not feel overly tired or sore; however I do stop to get out and walk around at no more than a 2-hour interval.
For city driving I will put the seat back slightly which gives me a little less tight pedal/leg room.
This works for me.

RE: Disaster

Just as a perspective, my rv dealer installed the Blue-Ox base plates and all the wiring (including charge wire system) on my Jeep Liberty in about 4 hours. Everything works; lights, turn signals, brake lights, 4-way flashers and toad battery charging.

RE: May need to store 5th wheel... cost?

I stored our 5th wheel and our current MH at a local lot near our home for $60/month (Cdn). It's a spot on crushed stone and has a 30-amp electric post that I share with a couple other rvers when we need it.

As someone who has worked out of Dallas several weeks each year I can't see an issue with this. Why would anyone care or be concerned?

RE: Nonstop Generator Use

A generator doesn't know if it's been running 5 hours or 5 days, it's purely a mechanical device that operates within a given temparature range and lubricant requirements. All you need to do is maintain the recommended manufacturer's maintenace schedule and you should have no problems.

I do and this would give me a great excuse that I could sneak by the wife! :C

RE: Norcold fridge making noise (fan??)

My Norcold will give me a fan-like noise when it working hard in really high heat and humidity temps. It quiets down to what I would call 'normal' when the outside temps cool down and if we don't open the doors frequently.

RE: Cleaning Weber Q100 Cast Iron Grill

I scrape the grill mine and brush the loose residues into the 'tub' and then brush everything down into the catch tray and toss it out. I usually do this at the end 4-5 grillings.

If you have hook-ups, lay down a strip of rope lights along the backing-in line; good for day or night use.

RE: Weber Baby Q?

............. I also did not want to use 2 different hose connected together if I could find a 20' length...any more help out there?
This is the catalogue system that my dealer uses (as well as most rv dealers up here). Open the link and scroll down to the right and you will see the various lengths that you can order. As I mentioned before, I have a 20' hose that works great for my purpose.

RE: Weber Baby Q?

.................. When we got our 4 foot hose I was thinking there would be a huge waste of gas if we were to get a longer one. But, I would love a longer hose so that I wasn't doing the grilling right at the front of the TT. Any opinions on length? :@
I like to be out from under the awning when grilling (especially when the rv windows are open), so that is the length that suits me.

RE: Gas-line Adaptor for a Weber BabyQ

You can get the various propane quick release adapters at Lowes. Our local Lowes in Plattsburgh NY carries most of these things throughout the summer season.

RE: Weber Baby Q?

Any rv dealer/shop should have a 20' hose. I have one to run off the mh tank but also use a 4' to a 20# tank for my Q.
I left the regulator on the grill and just use the hose to either my 20# tank or to the fitting that is installed ahead of the regulator on my MH tank.
